What To Do On A Public Holiday

Oct 3, 2019 5:30:00 PM / by Anjelica Hazlewood

Our Queen's Birthday Public Holiday is coming up this weekend for NSW and QLD campus's and we are super excited to have an extra day to relax! Or perhaps have a mini adventure! Here are some tips to make the most of your extra day off.

  • Take a road trip!
Take a look around your area and see where a few hours of driving can take you. You may discover places you never thought to explore before right in your own backyard! Taking a few friends with you will give you the opportunity to catch up, listen to music and make memories.

  • Go camping!
Grab a few of your friends and get your tent ready! To maximise your holiday time, leave early in the morning and if you're going a few hours away you'll arrive around lunch time, giving you a couple of days to chill, hang by the beach or participate in some fun activities! Some places book out quite quickly on Public Holidays so you may have to look around for available campsites. Don't forget to plan your pit stops for fuel and snacks!

  • Take a Hike!
Do you have any mountains, national parks or rain forests in your area? Make today the day you go into the great outdoors and go for a hike. Some rain forests and national parks have walking trails with different lengths - so you can choose which route you would suit you. Take a picnic and make a day of it!

Some of our favourites in QLD include:
  • Lamington National Park
  • Springbrook National Park
  • Burleigh Heads National Park
  • Binna Burra Lodge and Rainforest (Give these guys some love! Unfortunately they were affected by the OLD Fires in September, so visiting the town will help them get back on their feet!)
  • Natural Bridge Springbrook
  • Curtis Falls Tambourine Mountain

  • Catch up on your chores!
Have a pile of washing the size of a mountain? Time to clean up. I know it isn't ideal to clean up on a day off, but getting your chores out of the way will leave you time to chill out during the week.

  • Take advantage of local events in your area.
Go online and have a look at local events in your area. Sometimes large cities have weekend events like food truck conventions, concerts or even competitions!
