Do you feel that in this changed environment things that use to be simple are now becoming harder?
Do you want to find a way that can help you stay focused and organised?
Now is the time to Get S.M.A.R.T!
S.M.A.R.T is an acronym used in organisations to help you set objectives and goals and assist the company to reach its strategies for success. Using the SMART method not only encompasses physical, financial and human resources but it can also be used on a personal level as well.
Let me start with an example that I had been dealing with since being in lockdown. Washing up! As a family who are home all day the amount of washing up has grown exponentially.
By using the S.M.A.R.T principle it is now under control. This is what I communicated in the family meeting.
To make sure that it met S>M>A>R>T I had to make sure that these questions needed to be asked and answered.
Following the example of my family, I needed to answer yes or no to my idea. This will help me see if my idea is worth or not.
So, let´s see it:
S - Specific - All cookware, crockery, cutlery, and glasses to be washed .Yes
M - Measurable - The word “All “I believe is measurable. Yes
A – Achievable - Are all householders able to do washing up? Yes
R - Realistic - Have we got all the resources needed to be able to do the washing up?Yes
T - Timeframe - Within 15 minutes of use.Yes
Objective - To ensure that all cookware, crockery, cutlery, and glasses is washed within 15 minutes of use.
It is also advisable to offer a reward or recognition for those who meet this objective but it should be left to the household to decide what they would like and have consensus rather than you deciding. This has been shown to encourage and motivate people to meet their goal.
